About the Weaving Technique:
The weaving technique used to create this tapestry is
actually European in origin having been introduced to India earlier in
this century by a German woman who came to live and pursue her weaving
craft in Pondicherry. The technique was readily absorbed by the
local weavers, and now Pondicherry has become the leading center in
India for this style of weaving. The technique, called split
weave, allows for the depiction of very fine detail in any shape, and
thus the very accurate and lifelike re-creation of scenes, people,
animals, etc.
This tapestry design was taken from the print "Under the
Willow Tree" by Ruth Basler Burr.
How to hang or Display the Tapestry:
You can hang this tapestry with a rod or dowel through
the sleeve on the back, or you can use a strip of Velcro attached to the
wall on a wooden strip. The wool will adhere to the sticky part of
the Velcro.

Composition (Materials) of this Tapestry:
It is woven by hand from the finest Indian Carpet wool
on a cotton warp.
The tapestry is composed of 100% wool from the northern
state of Punjab in India. The work is treated for mothproofing.
Some of the wool is purchased pre-dyed in basic colors, while many more
of the lively and vibrant colors are created at the dyeing unit which is
part of Tapisseries de la Mere. They used the best commercial dyes
to ensure uniformity and colorfastness, so you can dry-clean this
tapestry with no worry of colors running or fading.
